Artist Statement

I communicate with the outside world and express myself through my work like all artists in this world.

The most important element in my work is to deal with the topic of humanity, with us humans and our society in which we live, which we can shape more or less. And as part of this, I focus on the individual, on his inner life, his exchange and interaction with others, his development. I take different perspectives in doing so and the result is sometimes serious, but sometimes also playful and humorous.

I try to understand myself better and also the world around me. At the same time, I would like to stimulate a new dialogue. Pictures can be powerful, they can serve as a basis for an internal discourse or an exchange of ideas with others.

I believe that when people see themselves as part of the whole, they also begin to understand more deeply who they are. That they are always connected on different levels at the same time, consciously and unconsciously affecting their surroundings.

At the beginning of a new work, I immerse myself in a topic that I’m curious about. I meditate on it, try to understand it. When I have achieved clarity, my own, individual truth, I extract the message that is most important to me and then portray it. I recognize how the various elements, linked within a whole, can interact in a positive and modest sense, both self-determined and with one another.

In my artistic development, I have been very experimental since my early youth, both educated and autodidactic, with various media and techniques that allow my voice to speak optimally. My struggle in the artistic expression is how I can portray my findings of the topic as expressively as possible and at the same time create space for dialogue and individual interpretation. It is precisely this confrontation that leads me to reduce my work to graphic, linear and defined forms and structures.

A new element in recent years has been the connection of image and text. The image or sculpture is revealed through the text, the text in turn through the image: a formal solution on both sides.

In my development, I inspire myself by nature, philosophy, science, music and literature, but also by the aesthetics and colors of art that I was allowed to discover during my many trips and stays abroad.

Since 2020, I am also living in Guadeloupe. My life on the “Caribbian Butterfly” literally enriches my creativity and personal development as a person. My perspectives and priorities are changing. I think and feel not in lack, but in abundance, not in comfort but in simplicity. I see myself as part of nature again and inspire myself by its abundance. I discover and experiment.
