Story of the Work

If I take the perspective of truth, for example, it is always subjective; it is never all-encompassing, round, complete, a universal unit or norm.

How do I perceive colors as a human being, how does a bee perceive them? How does it feel for me to touch the leaf of a plant? How does this touch feel for the plant?

Each being looks at the world from its own perspective, interprets it individually. All of these views have their claim, their justification. They make the world, in which we live, diverse and colorful. If we allow ourselves to be positively inspired by it, we will gain inner wealth and potential for growth. With each step in our development we move from one incomplete state to the next, becoming rounder or more angular.

Story of the Work

Everything is impermanent, void, in development.

What I thought, said or did a second ago is already part of the past. And I can no longer change this past.

If I stay at this very moment, in the present, in front of a fork in the road and choose a path, this decision and the associated thoughts and actions have an impact on my future. And these thoughts are already past again. Past, present and future take place at the same moment.

The realization that time as a linear dimension is an illusion, enables us to live a fear-free, development-friendly and active life, to shift tectonically, to change our form.

Story of the Work

In our history of existence, we as human beings have already existed in other (e.g. carbon) forms. Therefore, we contain information from previous existences and any developments that we have made.

In our current form of existence we are not detached or delimited from other forms around us. We were, are and will always be part of the whole, of the eternal cycle.

We are constantly reassembled from different elements and assigned to different functions. From the information in the cell nucleus of an apple, which define its growth and structure, to the information for the biochemical processes in every human being, absorbing vitamins, water and other nutrients of this apple and converting them into another form of energy.

Story of the Work

All things are subject to change, from coming to going. In this change in existence, everything that exists takes on different forms, colors and compositions. Nothing is stable, but in constant development, in a cycle from one existence to the next.

The universe in which we live is neither eternal nor static in its current form. Just as every universe passes the phases of creation, expansion, destruction and re-creation, we beings are born as part of this universe, going through the different phases of life until we die. The different components of our bodies are taken up again by nature and awaken to new life.

We are never alone. We are always, in every status, part of the whole. And everything is possible according to the principle of cause and effect.

Story of the Work

As an individual, I wish myself a happy life and I try to avoid suffering. Like myself, all beings strive for happiness.

But I am not separate from all these other beings. I am related to them, directly or indirectly, intensely or loosely. I am part of my family, my circle of friends, of society, the food chain, of nature. I am also no more or less valuable than another being that has the same natural right to happiness.

I can achieve happiness and lack of suffering through the interaction in relationships with others; through their love, cooperation and tolerance. And therefore it is only natural to take greater account of the well-being of others and to take them more seriously; to comprehend the others in their self but also in their words and actions as their gift to me as equally valuable, if not even more valuable.

Nevertheless, one could use a similar analogy about the value of apparently inanimate and animate things. A bowl made of clay may have no consciousness or may not feel happiness and suffering. But in its form, it adopts a function for me. Therefore, I can treat it with respect, appreciate it, fix it if it breaks.

Story of the Work

Our life consists of moments of happiness, but also of painful times that challenge us. If we did not know the latter, we would not be able to grasp the moments of happiness and be completely merged into it.

The feeling of happiness is not a condition that lasts for a long time. However, it is as valuable as that of suffering, because in our consciousness one condition mutually defines the other. And since both happiness and suffering are part of our lives, one could call it imperfect.

If we take the things that surround us, we will distinguish them into beautiful and less beautiful. Here, too, we can only make this subdivision if we have defined for ourselves what we consider to be beautiful. Is it visual perfection or just one or the other imperfection that makes something interesting, builds up tension and just illustrates this very contrast? Of how many things are we surrounded that are actually perfect?

And precisely in the imperfection of all things in this world lies the possibility of treating all things and beings and thus also ourselves with love and awe.
