Portraits of My Eyes

The idea for this small project originated from my wish to give a small creative gift to a person who is very close to my heart and who likes my eyes.

I wanted to depict different emotions, reflected by my eyes. At the same time I had in mind to work out two different variations: one in black and gray tones and one with the green iris of my eyes.

I hadn’t really dealt with my eye color until now. In a short research I found pseudo-proven scientifically qualities of people with a green iris, people who make up merely 2% of our world population.

They are supposed to combine opposing characteristics and are therefore often difficult to assess for other people. At the same time they can be dominant and mild, careful and strong, unpredictable but also very patient. They can be tough and unperturbed, very creative and trustworthy, independent, intelligent, curious and cheerful. People with a green iris particularly seem to be sexually attractive to other people because they associate their eye color with the characteristics of a feline predator: sensual, erotic and mystical, with a hint of danger.

I have a fairly honest image of myself. I read these descriptions with a little amusement, comparable to a horoscope. I am not convinced that a person’s character and personality can be conveyed from a genetically determined eye pigmentation. In my opinion, a person is shaped by life and its individual answers to it.

For me, the process of portraying my eyes was very interesting. I generally have an intensive dialogue with myself and my emotional inner life. When drawing, I looked into my eyes and soul from the outside. This kind of connection with myself was very careful and loving.
