Hommage to Street Art - First Spraying Result

For my first cycle “Homage to Street Art” I have selected three women and three men who have shaped our society in their personal way. Personalities from different countries, continents, and periods who set an example as human beings or artistic protagonists in the fight for civil rights. Their achievements and ideas, whether consciously or unconsciously, in whole or in part, still shape our thinking and actions when it comes to shaping our society and gaining long-winded civil rights that have not yet become reality.

It was important to me to let them speak in their own native language. However, in the painting “Remember Remember the 5th of November”, I presumed to raise my voice representatively for V.

The photographic documentation shows some of the steps involved in creating the street art paintings: from cutting the stencils, to working on the paintings, up to spraying.

Philosophical Contemplations – Wood Sculptures

Philosophical Contemplations - Wood Sculptures

The wood sculptures directly relate to the appropriate acrylic and oil paintings. I extracted the essence of the paintings and transferred it into a plastic form. The sculptures can intensify the essence close to the painting or carry it to another area.

The individual parts of the sculpture “Family between Benevolent Dictatorship, Anarchy, Estrangement, and Love,” captured in this photographic documentary, represent a part of the essence I extracted: the female family members. They have rounded and soft shapes, polished by life, flexible and adaptive, balancing. They are strung one above the other according to their age, protecting each other, but sometimes overwhelming each other as well. Each appears in its individual form and color, but in a socially pseudo-legitimated order, from which it is necessary to emancipate oneself, to live its own life and to follow its own development.

Hommage to Gottfried Honegger – Graphics

Hommage to Gottfried Honegger - Graphics

In these graphics I have aimed to achieve a balance between the living and the seemingly lifeless in our immediate environment. I confronted them and let them connect with each other. They are on top of each other, lean against each other and / or are intertwined.

As this photograph also shows. Delved into the work process in my home studio, I am surrounded by light and shadow, round and square objects, of intense colors and black and white, of plants and drying laundry (living and lifeless?), of hard and fragile materials, of the analog and digital world – in its polarity but also in the intermediate shades of gray.

Hommage to Gottfried Honegger – Sculptures

Hommage to Gottfried Honegger - Sculptures

In this project, I wanted to develop a feeling for the forms and possibilities: What effect does a single pyramid have, how two pyramids form a unity of themself, how pairs of pyramids connect to each other and what forms they can take in different constellations. And finally, how individual color surfaces in selected spots form a character, an entity – such as individuals, couples and communities in their colorful diversity.

In a first step, I created prototypes from white-coated, thick cardboard and assembled them in my home studio. The material was easy to handle.

My goal was to create geometric sculptures made of wood. So I discussed my project and my concept with a local carpenter, who was immediately enthusiastic about my idea. We discussed the pros and cons of different woods and a practical approach to manufacture the individual parts and to assemble them. We decided to build the sculptures based on individual wooden triangles. The challenge was to cut and mill these thin wooden triangles. The milled parts were very fragile, at the beginning some of the corners broke.

Back in my home studio, I assembled the wooden triangles to form individual pyramids and then pyramid pairs. I sanded and primed them in several cycles and applied the colour spots. In a final step, I assembled the pyramid pairs in the individual constellations I had already developed in my prototypes.
