In the nationwide women’s strike on June 14, 2019, 500,000 participants demanded justice and equality on the street. Only four months later, the Frauen*streik Kollektiv Zürich moved into the feminist strike house on Sihlquai.

Many people joined the collective and began to commit themselves to the concerns of FLINT * (women, lesbians, inter, non-binary and transgender) people, especially after the big strike.

As a women’s rights activist and artist, I wanted to take up the energy, creativity and strength of all these people when they moved into the new strike house and to contribute two paintings from the cycle “Homage to Street Art” as an exhibition and permanent loan. The two works depict Harriet Tubmann and Commandante Ramona, women who have stood up for justice and equality for us humans in an incredible manner.

I returned to the strike house just a few days after I hung up the paintings in two rooms. With tears of emotion in my eyes, I realized that people received my work in such a way that they immediately named the rooms according to the titles of the paintings.
